Gloria E. Allen

Growing up on Arcadia up the street from Mrs. Allen, I have such fond memories of her beautiful smile and vibrant, energetic personality. My deepest condolences to her loved ones.

Gloria was the best neighbor we could have had for 36 years! We loved Gloria and Wally. They were surrogate grandparents to our 3 kids, once even attending the school’s grandparents’ day when the real grandparents were out of town! They were the finders of lost pets, and if you couldn't locate your children, you'd usually find them at the Allen's having cookies! Gloria was my closest friend in the neighborhood for many, many years. She was always willing to help you out. Our youngest son was particularly close to the Allen's. In elementary school, it became necessary for him to have a house key in his backpack because he often got home a little earlier than his siblings. Gloria always had a key to our house for emergencies and he knew that. After several months, Gloria gave our son a small gift. It was a key ring. We discovered that, unbeknownst to us, instead of searching for his key in his backpack, he was just going to the Allen's every day. She never told me! I loved sitting on the porch and sharing the neighborhood talk with her. Even though we haven’t seen her so much in recent years due to her declining health, we will miss her so much! Gloria and Wally were one of a kind. Everyone should have neighbors like them. They were simply very, very good people - the BEST!
