I had far too little time to know Chip as my son became a part of Boy Scout Troop 31. Yet in that short time it was clear that Chip embodied the most noble attributes of Scouting. He was a man with the spirit of a long hunter, a person that always had time to mentor and teach. Chip looked at the clouds, listened to the wind, and felt the earth. His was an ancient spirit that will live on in the hearts and minds of those that had the privilege of knowing him. You stayed true to yourself and everything that you believed a scout should be. You were helpful, kind, and reverent. The trail was not always easy. Yet you walked it with a quiet dignity that showed us what leadership looks like. And now, your journey complete, you have reached the end of the trail. Scout a flat spot of soft earth in the eternal forest, and tonight, rest easy old scout.
