Alan Ray New, age 72, passed away peacefully at home Tuesday June 29, 2021. His loving wife of 45 years, Rita (Kohus) and devoted daughters, Sarah Jane & Sonya Rae were at his side. Alan proudly served our country in the United States Marine Corps. He was a decorated Vietnam War combat veteran and an active Mason. His career as a Physical Plant Engineer began at Lodge & Shipley Machine Tool Co. and he happily retired in 2008 from Northern Kentucky University. Growing up on West 12th Street in Covington, Alan loved the COV and was a proud Kentuckian. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and his pontoon boat. His uncanny ability to fix things and willingness to lend a helping hand left an impression on all who knew him. In the words of his beloved grandson Carter Alan, "My PawPaw can fix anything." Family and friends are invited to reminisce and celebrate Alan's life Friday July 9, 2021 from 2 PM until 5 PM in the Drees Pavilion at Devou Memorial Overlook 790 Park Lane Covington, KY 41011. Dear Uncle Al, You have been with me all my life. I am so grateful for all of the family memories, all of the Christmases, Halloweens and multitude of life's celebrations. You always had a smile and carried a hearty laugh. You were not afraid to voice your opinion and say what was on your mind. That is something special that I will admire about you and bring out in myself in your honor. There is so much that I didn't know about you and I hope that through this celebration of your life I get the opportunity to learn. Thank you for being by my side when I needed family more than anything. Thank you for generously sharing your laughter and whit. Thank you for driving us kids around to see Christmas lights, way back when. Thank you for your warm hugs and always caring. Thank you for being a spark in our lives, in my life. You will surely be missed by me; and so many. Aunt Rita, Sarah and Sonya, you are in my prayers. I love you all very much.
