D.J. Mathis, age 32 of Independence, KY formerly of Florence, KY passed away on Tuesday, August 6, 2013 in Fort Thomas, KY. He is survived by his Parents: Dennis and Brenda Mathis; Wife: Alisha Waters Mathis; Brothers: Brian McIntosh (Becky) and Steve McIntosh; Numerous Aunts, Uncles and Cousins. The Visitation will be on Friday, August 9, 2013 at Connley Brothers Funeral Home in Latonia, KY from 5 PM until 8 PM. Funeral Service on Saturday, August 10, 2013 at the Funeral Home at 11 AM. Interment in Union Rice Cemetery in Union, KY. Memorials to: Mental Health Association of Northern Kentucky 912 Scott Street Covington, KY 41011. Denny and Brenda and family….my heart breaks for you and there are no words to take away the pain. I sigh and take a breath, then take another breath. One day at a time and when that is too much 1 hour at a time and if that is too much just get through the next 5 minutes. May God give you with some sense of peace today and in the coming days. I will keep you in my prayers..
Please know you are in my prayers during this most difficult time. I remember D.J. as my little brother’s (Matthew Warner) best childhood friend. I live in MO or I would be there to share my condolences in person.

Truly we are at a complete loss for words and so very sorry as we loved DJ very much. He was always such a great friend to our three kids at UK and was there for us during our darkest times. If we were not on our way overseas, we would be there in person. We will certainly send a donation in DJs memory as we know others can be helped in his memory. We send all our love. To DJ’s family–You are all in my thoughts and prayers. I have heard about DJ since my niece Devon was a little girl. I will remember him as a caring and kind person, who had a wonderful smile, and meant so much to Devon.
