Paul William Fossett, 67, of Latonia, KY, passed away on Monday, October 29, 2018, at his home after a long illness. Paul was renowned amateur golfer in Northern Kentucky and Greater Cincinnati, who was particularly well known at his home course, Twin Oaks, located just a “hollow” away from the house he grew up in on Glenn Avenue. Paul was the consummate “money player” whose favorite targets, particularly when he was a younger golfer, were well-heeled country clubbers who, like unsuspecting antelopes on the Savannah plains, would occasionally venture into his territory at the public golf course. After a round of golf with Paul – who would often play wearing cut-off shorts, Chuck Taylors without socks, and an Oakland Raiders t-shirt in his younger days – these seasoned golfers invariably left Latonia with much thinner wallets and a new appreciation for Paul’s golf skills. Paul continued his competitive golfing career for many years, including winning several local tournaments and club championships at different golf clubs. With his good friend, Dan Fischer, Paul organized and ran the Pete Stuntebeck Classic, a high-stakes scramble tournament that brought the best golfers in the tri-state to Twin Oaks to raise scholarship funds for golfers at local universities. He also was a founding member of Traditions Golf Club, where he continued to play competitive golf until physical ailments prevented him from continuing his passion. Upon his retirement from golf, Paul sated his curious mind by devouring many books — ranging from subjects like philosophy, history, and psychology – literally immersing himself in any subject matter that piqued his interest. He also took a keen interest in collectibles, particularly golf clubs and golf equipment, which he often would restore in his basement workshop. Paul retired from CSX Transportation and later from Covington Independent Public Schools, where he worked as a school bus driver. The students he ferried to and from school and sporting events and his co-workers on his bus, like all his friends and family, deeply miss his friendship, kindness, and wit. Paul’s parents, Paul and Mary Fossett, preceded him in death. Paul is survived by his brothers, Jay Fossett (Barb) and Glen Fossett (Kim); his sister, Mary; nieces, Meredith Fossett, Alyson Fossett, Liz Fossett (David), Katelyn Fossett, and Julie Aubrey; and nephews, Jack Fossett and Matt Aubrey. No funeral services will be held. A private Celebration of Life will be held for friends and family at a future date. Memorials are suggested to the Paul Fossett Memorial Scholarship Fund, c/o the TEAM Foundation (supporting student-athletes at Holmes High School), P.O. Box 12132, Covington, Ky. 41011-9998.
