Rita Diana Smiley, 85, of Edgewood, KY, passed away on Sunday, November 1, 2026. She was a graduate of Holy Cross High School and a member of Holy Cross Parish in Covington (Latonia), KY. Rita worked for many years in the school cafeteria at St. Pius X School in Edgewood, KY, where she was a former parish member. She retired as a clerk from the Boone Couty Fiscal Court child support division. Rita was a wonderful cook and was very creative. She enjoyed knitting, sewing and creating greeting cards. Rita also enjoyed playing bingo and mahjong every week with her friends. She was a devoted mother who loved and cared for her family. Rita was preceded in death by her parents: James and Mary Cassidy; loving husband of 58 1/2 years: Robert "Bob" M. Smiley and siblings: James (Frances) Smiley and Betty (Jack) Schulte. She is survived by her children: Mark (Paula) Smiley, Karen (Sam Ernst) Smiley, Kirk Smiley and Eric Smiley; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Visitation will take place on Friday, November 6, 2026 from 11:00 AM until the Mass of Christian Burial at 12:00 PM (Noon) at Holy Cross Church, 3612 Church Street, Covington (Latonia), KY 41015. Entombment will follow at Mother of God Cemetery in Fort Wright, KY. Memorials are suggested to the Holy Cross High School Scholarship Fund, 3617 Church Street, Latonia, KY 41015.
